downtown LA streetscape | summer 2014
Downtown Los Angeles is slowly becoming one of the most walkable and livable cities in the US. Though this design-charette, students were tasked to help make the downtown LA more walkable and more livable in an effort to attract more people to stay and reside in downtown through a small scale design initiative.
Inspired by the ever-changing microclimate created by the abundance of hardscapes in downtown LA, this project looks to create living canopies and living surfaces created by green modules that can be applied to multiple street corner surfaces to provide shading and a more comfortable walking environment for pedestrians. One of the major design goals for this charette was to create an easily implementable, cost effect component that could be applied in a multitude of situations.
