HEX | fall 2011

The Fence is an intergral part of the Carnegie Mellon campus.  As a campus tradition, students “claim” the Fence and paint it to advertise events. Students were challenged to build shelters for the people guarding the Fence. Students were asked to collaborate in groups of 6 to create one uniform design for a shelter.  Ideas from each individuals’ original ideas were combined and improved on to create one concept.

Using 2X4’s and sheets of plywood, groups planned and built each of the shelters and positioned them around the Fence for public installation  Our concept, HEX, was a dynamic shelter that could be rotated in different orientations based on the position and need.
